I'm starting a petition for a download counter feature displaying how many times a theme has been downloaded. This would show the popularity of the theme as well as giving the theme maker an idea of their fan base and if the theme is doing well. Who ever agrees please reply to get the admin's attention and hopefully get a download counter on the site. I need as much people as I can to make this happen! π
hmmmmmmm I guess its a good idea to have a counter but it will surely hurt the feelings of some authors especially if your not that a good theme maker(like me T_T). On the other hand it is good to know how many people have download a theme since a lot of people is probably downloading the theme without giving thanks or a rate. Ill go with your idea Jaydee since you and my friend had the same name^^

I think this site has more than enough to tell us creators how well our themes rank man. The best option is to promote this site and your themes at the same time.
You should know your fan base fella (I do). You can try giving the users/downloaders simple maths like more feedback = more and better quality themes if you want.
Before I started making themes I asked myself "why do I want to make themes". None of my reasons made me think about myself only the people using the themes .
Ask yourself the same question man. What are your answers?

Me personally, as you said, I make themes for others to enjoy. It's nice to have a visual representation of how many people are potentially enjoying your creation. I bet Jaydee1003 feels the same. Sure it's just as arbitrary as a like/dislike system, but as we know not everyone leaves a comment or presses the like/dislike button. A download counter at least lets you know how many users 'see' your work, especially for people who don't or are unable to post Youtube previews.
You know Jaydee1003 has no problem knowing his fanbase as 2 of his themes are in the most liked section. lol
I agree with uLtRaMa6nEt1c and harima. the whole point of having a download counter is to see how many people downloaded your theme since not everyone leaves a feedback. Also sometimes some people might just like/dislike a theme and they probably didn't even try it out.. so a download counter would serve as a different purpose and would be a nice extra feature.

Unfortunately there's no easy way to add a download counter, if we were to add it we would basically have to go through 8500+ themes and update them manually with the new link structure needed to track downloads, we'd rather spend that time on adding new themes instead.
I have internal download stats from the server but that's impossible to output on the website. But I can tell you an easy way to calculate downloads yourself with the help of the "Popular Now" & "Most popular now - Week" lists. Simply take the views of the theme and split in half and you have the downloads for that time period.
So 50% of the people who view a theme downloads it, for themes with a nice looking preview image and good presentation the download percentage can be up to 65% - but themes never go under the 50% download rate.
We could add the "Theme views" on each themes DL/Info page again which we had before but I don't know if it's necessary when we have the "Popular now/Week" sections.

Ooh ok.. i see.. thx for replying. I like the "theme views" on each themes idea. Even though theres a popular now/week sections, its updated regularly. It would be nice to have the TOTAL theme views on each theme that way we can calculate like you said to see how many downloads there is.. If you can add it that would be great! π
