Running XP, already installed 2.5 and 3.0; still not working! I click "open", get a dialog box, find the theme I want to work on, click it--nada! Everything stays blank. I'm trying to remove sounds from a dynamic theme (and I'm trying to follow the directions from the theme builder to the letter) but I'm getting more and more frustrated. Somebody help me please!

@NCBikerBoy: You did everything well, mate. When you open an already made theme, PS3 Theme Builder does not display icons and other stuff, but it's normal: after opening a theme, you just have to click on an icon's name to make it appear (with all the other related ones) in their respective boxes.

However, by opening a dynamic theme, the program's not able to recognize the "anim.jpg" images, because it only works with normal JPEG images...

Hope it helps! Laugh

@NCBikerBoy
If you just want to extract sounds from a theme (and/or icons) :

http://code.google.com/p/p3tex.....=2&q=

It will create a folder where your .p3t theme file is with sounds, icons, images,etc.
It doesn't unpack anim_1.jpg files.

@OPTIMUS: So, basically, Theme Builder only works on non-dynamic, non-animated themes, right? Thanks, that actually makes sense.

@uLtRa: Thanks for the link, I'll give it a shot.

@NCBikerBoy: Don't mention it, bro!
Yep! That's because actually the "anim_1.jpg" file is like a... a trick!
Practically, it's made of several images (frames) which are "condensed" in a single file saved as jpeg. To get this kind of file, you need to use different programs/tools.
PS3 Theme Builder was programmed to make standard (static) themes, so it can only recognize normal jpeg images...

As for extracting stuff from a theme: as my friend uLtRaMa6nEt1c said, you can use "p3textractor" (it should be downloadable from here, by clicking on the "Extractor" tab in the home page)
It's a little tool which allows you to easily open the .p3t files: once you've associated a p3t file to the program, you'll just need to double click on the file to open it and extract all its content.

If you need help, feel free to ask Wink

Ok, so...I still have 2 problems:

1. I still can't figure out how to make theme builder work. When I use the "open" function, I get a dialog box which gives me choices of the (non-dynamic) themes I've downloaded; but when I choose any of them, nothing happens. All the fields in the theme builder window remain blank. What am I missing? Do I have to load every parameter one by one, and if so, how do I do that?

2. If say, for example, I just want to delete some images from a particular theme, but keep everything else intact (I used theme extractor, by the way); do I simply delete the images and that's that, or are there other steps I need to perform. Can the PS3 use the extracted version of the p3t file, or does it have to be in non-extracted p3t format in order to work properly? If that's the case, how do I convert an extracted p3t back to a non-extracted p3t?

I'm sorry to be such a nuisance; I've just never done any of this before, and I'm trying to get my nephew's Christmas present ready in time! Thanks, guys!

As for the question #1: Uhm... that's weird! As I said before, when you open a theme everything is blank, at the beginning, but you have to click on the name of an icon, for example, to make it appear with all its related ones in their respective boxes. Same thing for all the rest.
Are you sure the .p3t file of the theme you want to open is not maybe corrupted?

Question #2: If you want to delete images, you have to click the "Delete" button in the backgrounds section. Then, to add new backgrounds, you need to click on the "Add Background" button and browse for the HD and SD backgrounds you want to put in the theme.

As for the PS3: Nope, it cannot use extracted themes... p3t is right the file format used by PS3 to make themes work.

Also, when you extract a theme's content, the tool only creates a folder (named like the theme) in which it extracts everything. But the original .p3t file remains exactly where you saved it: so, you don't need to convert an extracted p3t back to a non-extracted one...

I think I got it now, as far as getting a theme to load...took me a few tries, but it's working now. So, now I just have to manually delete any backgrounds I don't want, then add in any new ones (if I want to add any), right? Then do I just click "save" to keep what I've done? Does the original p3t get updated with the new info, or is there something else I need to do?

@NCBikerBoy & uLtRaMa6nEt1c

=> NCBikerBoy: Glad to know it's working now!
Yep, that's correct! Everytime you want to delete or add something, you have to do it manually: program doesn't know what you want, after all, untill you "tell" it... Wink
And if you want to build a theme from scratch, you have to manually put each thing one by one (icons, backgrounds, sounds, etc...)

Nope! I mean, there's no need to click "Save"... once you've changed what you want, you just have to click on "Build" button: PS3 Theme Builder will compile everything, by creating a folder with the name of the theme in which it will put all the elements of the theme itself plus the XML file and the p3t file Wink
