The question is: Is there a way to change the DDS converter settings?
Been doing some tinkering with my theme and noticed something about the dds files. It might be old news here but couldn't find a thread.
I'm working with 1920x1080 images, and the original .jpgs range from 9MB-12MB. After Converting them to DDS they all became 0.98MB. Hot damn that was a huge file compression! So I got to thinking, if I use smaller files I'll save more space right?
No...
I tried a 1920x1080 image that was originally 280KB. After converting to DDS it was... 0.98MB (It went up.. wtf??)
1920x1080ratio image is always 0.98MB, 1280x720ratio is always 450KB, etc..
Has anyone tried messing with this? I know there's a file size limit for various parts in a Theme, but can't the DDS be smaller? If there's way to change this please let me know. Then I could fit more than 15 frames in a HD animation.

DDS is a format used for 3D rendering. Sony uses it in themes because they are supposed to be in 3D like the Wipeout HD and Afrika themes. It's not meant for what we're doing with themes. We're doing sort of a work-around when making themes. For what we do PNG or JPEG would be ideal. DDS sucks for what we do do. Did you notice the drop in quality when converting to DDS?
In short - do what the tutorial says. We've already tried tinkering with DDS a long time ago.
